SARA's farm animals

overview
SARA is located in the rural farmlands of Seguin, Texas. With our location, we often get calls for help with abandoned or abused factory farm animals. For example, Homer, a SARA pig, was originally saved by a farmer because he was trampled on the way to the slaughterhouse and suffered a broken back. Homer was made into a "pet" and taught to roll over and sit up (with a permanently mangled back). Homer made his way to SARA, as the other animals featured on this page. They will live at SARA for the remainder of their lives and are seeking sponsorship. Here are a special few.

Our Steers: Our two gentle giants, Patron (seen here) and Son, were destined for the "scales" or to be slaughtered once they were no longer wanted as herd sires by a long horn breeder in Sattler, Texas. They were purchased by SARA a supporter, castrated, and later brought here. They are big lumbering guys who are so friendly.

Our Goats: Buster, pictured, was brought here when he was two days old after his mother died. Other goats we have in our care were going to be cabrito (spanish for goat) dinners, until someone bought them and brought them to SARA.

Our burros: One of burros shown here was adopted from the Bureau of Land Management and found his way to SARA. The others were abandoned by a neighbor who asked us to take them.

Our roosters and chickens: This particular chicken (shown right) has a compelling story. She was found tossed into someone’s backyard with her legs bound with duck tape and wire. Her chicks seen with her hatched at SARA.

Our feral hogs: There are more than two million feral hogs in Texas alone, and we have our share of them here. We are working to contain the feral pigs that have made our property their home by building two enclosures to capture them. We are having the juvenile piglets spayed and neutered. We are currently seeking grant money for this building project.

Our mustangs: Blaze/Zoe (seen here)- red roan mustang mare w/ her baby Zoe. Pregnant Blaze came from the BLM or Burea of Land Management. She was a true wild horse and she was captured and sent into the Wild Horse Adoption program. Thankfully, she was able to come to SARA and have her beautiful baby, Zoe.
